In 2006, because of an obvious need, Jaime Alonzo and his wife Evely Peniche sacrificially established a makeshift classroom for about 12 children in their open-air garage. The children had been coming for Sunday Bible classes, but when it became clear that they could not read, and were not likely to learn, since they were not attending school, Evely started teaching them in the afternoons, after coming home from her work as teacher and psychologist in a local school. A friend of the family, Sacha Kok (from Holland) was also a great help in buying supplies and doing recreational activities with the children.

.

Good news travels fast and by the summer she hired a teacher to help as the number of children reached 50. By mid 2007, Jaime, Evely and their three teenage daughters moved from the first floor of their home to the second floor, to make room for classes. By Aug 2008, the upper balcony of their home also became a class-room.

Then in January 2010, the local government told Evely that she could no longer have a school in their home. Thankfully, a two story rental building near their home came available for the school, and the school grew to over 200 children, ranging in age from 3 to 15 and in classes up to grade 7, with a staff of 12 part-time and full time teachers. Jaime gave up his job at a local resort to help in running the school.

In the summer of 2011, God provided a new school building, through the Samaritan Foundation, and classes have now begun for the 2011/2012 school year. Since about 100 new children wanted to come, bring the total to almost 400, Jaime and Evely are attempting to meet the need by continuing to use the older, rented property as well as the new building.
